Pilot Chemical Offers a Range of Disinfectants Included on EPA’s Disinfectants for Use Against SARS-CoV-2

Pilot Chemical Corp. announces the addition of 32 of its products to the EPA’s newly expanded list of EPA-registered disinfectant products that meet the requirements for use against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

“Our customers serve the consumer, institutional and industrial markets. In today’s world, effective disinfection, sanitization and cleaning products are critical to help ensure the health and safety of everyone including family members, workers, students, customers, and patients,” says Richard Rehg, vice president of commercial, Pilot Chemical Corp. “We applaud the EPA for its efforts to fast-track registrations. Pilot Chemical stands ready to meet the market demand for these products. We take very seriously the important role that proper disinfection, sanitizing and cleaning play as our country mobilizes to combat this serious public health threat.”

Pilot Chemical Corp.’s Mason Chemical Company line of products offers a broad range of high-quality EPA-registered hard surface disinfectants under the Maquat® and Maguard® brands to help our customers offer effective formulated products to meet rapidly changing market needs.

While disinfectant products on this list have not been tested specifically against SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19, they are expected to be effective against SARS-CoV-2 because they have been tested and proven effective on another human coronavirus similar to SARS-CoV-2. They include the Maquat MN series, the Maquat NHQ series, Maquat 7-series, and the Maquat PD series. Also included in the portfolio are the Maguard 5626 and Maguard 1522 based on Peracetic acid. The expanded EPA list now includes the Mason products, as shown here.

Pilot Chemical Named to The Cincinnati Enquirer’s 2018 Top Workplace List

Pilot Chemical Company has been awarded a 2018 Top Workplaces honor by The Cincinnati Enquirer. The list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by research partner Energage, LLC (formerly WorkplaceDynamics), a leading provider of technology-based employee engagement tools. The anonymous survey measures several aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution, and connection, just to name a few.
“Top Workplaces is more than just recognition,” said Doug Claffey, CEO of Energage. “Our research shows organizations that earn the award attract better talent, experience lower turnover, and are better equipped to deliver bottom-line results. Their leaders prioritize and carefully craft a healthy workplace culture that supports employee engagement.”
“Pilot’s success is driven by the excellence and dedication displayed in our employees,” said Pam Butcher, CEO and president of Pilot Chemical. “We work hard to demonstrate to our employees how much we value their contributions through our culture, communication, career opportunities, benefits and more.”
“Becoming a Top Workplace isn’t something organizations can buy,” Claffey said. “It’s an achievement organizations have worked for and a distinction that gives them a competitive advantage. It’s a big deal.”

R&D Chief Rick Shook Retires from Pilot Chemical

Rick Shook is retiring from Pilot Chemical Company today after nearly 40 years, most recently serving as vice president of research and development.
Rick spent his entire career in R&D, joining Pilot’s Santa Fe Springs facility in California as a chemist in December 1978 and serving in roles over the years that included lab supervisor, lab manager, corporate technical manager and director of research. In his role as vice president of R&D, Rick was responsible for technology and innovation activities, including new products and new process developments.
What all his roles at Pilot had in common – they challenged him and pushed him to innovate.
“When I started at Pilot, I was 25 years old with a brand new master’s degree and a pregnant wife,” Rick said. “I was thrilled just to have a research job. I never dreamed it would last me 40 years, but the job has been continuously challenging and renewing, with something new always coming down the pike.”
Two of the most satisfying projects: Early in his career, Rick helped develop Pilot’s Aristonate products, oil-soluble sulfonates used in the manufacture of metalworking fluids, which have wide usage in industries including automotive. He also played a key role in Pilot’s Calfax line of disulfonate products, which are used extensively in the manufacture of latex for paint, pressure-sensitive adhesives and more. Pilot is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of both oil-soluble sulfonates and disulfonate products.
Rick holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Pepperdine University and a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Rick will stay involved with Pilot as a consultant, but his retirement plans also include a new adventure. He and his wife, Cathy, sold their house and purchased an RV, in which they plan to “amble around the country with no schedules.”
